ASB - Priority around Corals

This first priority has concluded at this time. This involved tackling the gatherings of groups drinking and intimidating the public in the vicinity of Corals bookmakers. The NAG worked closely with Corals and other local shops who were very supportive of helping the community to make the area better. Both Corals and Metro Food and Wine have set up a specific plan to deal with offenders and this will be supported by the police. The feedback is that this has improved to such an extent that the NAG has moved to focus on a new priority. This will be monitored continually and revisited if needed. Please let us know your thoughts.

I don't think has improved one bit. The nice weather is with us this week (12th March) and I walked passed Corals to find 6 men hanging around the door, swearing, drinking and being down right rude to passers by. Corals clearly aren't doing enough.

I have to agree with 'anonymous' of 14th. With the sunnier weather, they (men, women and youths, some clearly under 16) have appeared again, hanging around outside Corals, cans in their hands (purchased from Metro!), loud voices, really bad swearing and cussing, shouting at people passing by. Cars with doors and windows open and radios at full blast, here we go again....mind you, the cold weather and hail did keep them indoors today...As customers in both the Bookies and the shop next door, neither Corals or Tony at Metro are going to turn them away, they are spending money...I also believe there is still drug dealing going on in the immediate area behind the bookies. I have seen 2-3 people at a time disappear in the gap between the hedge running along Buckingham Drive, and reappear a few minutes later, several times whilst I have been waiting at the bus stop across the Micklefield Road.

Anonymous - 19th March.
Thank you for taking teh time to post your entry. As a result the police have been contacted and they will be in touch with both named shops at a senior level. Please keep us updated with what is happening as we are committed to stopping this.

Last night there was 15 - 20 people hanging around outside corels drinking and blocking the pavement. This issue has not been resolved and will not be resolved until the place is shut down and the whole parade of shops redeveloped. This needs to be a priority for all local agencies to work together on. I feel so sorry for the people who are trying to sell their house opposite these shops. The shops are a disgrace and drag the whole area down. They would not be tolerated in "nice" areas of the district so why should we have to tolerate them here?

The Neighbourhood Policing Team are looking into this problem and are researching a possible method of tackling it. We cannot go into detail at this time but hope to have more information soon.

Police have informed us that yesterday they used new legislation to remove a person from the front of Corals. The individual was required to leave the area and given a set timescale before they could return. This will apparently be an on going initiative from the Neighbourhood Team with those that drink at the front of Corals.

The first use of this legislation occured on Saturday afternoon.

I think it should be closed. What a great thing to see when you are driving up the road drunken fools and under age gamblers.
I have grown up in the community and I will no longer stop at Tony's (local shop).
